  • THRUST AREAS OF INTERVENTION

    The representatives from each district, the Members of the Executive Board and the Staff had a series of consultations and workshop and identified the following as the thrust areas of intervention.

               They are:
  • Prevention and Control of Anaemia / Malnutrition,
  • Promotion of Reproductive Health and Rights,
  • Prevention and Control of STD / HIV / AIDS,
  • Prevention of Disability and Rehabilitation of Persons with    Disability.
  • Participation in Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme,
  • Linkage with Resource Agencies to deal with Alcoholism,
  • Conducting Women Empowerment Programme,
  • Promotion of Reproductive Health and Rights.
  • 1. Prevention and Control of Anaemia and Malnutrition.

    Available information show that in Tamil Nadu 60% of the women have anaemia, anaemia in pregnant women is nearly 70%. About 25% of the children are born with low weight - keeping these in mind, the members of TNVHA have initiated an action research or an experimental study in 10 districts of Tamil Nadu. The district Facilitation Centres co-ordinate the activities.

    Through these joint efforts, the members attempt to understand the cause of anaemia or malnutrition and initiate intervention plan to tackle the issue. The impact is measured scientifically.

    2. Promotion of Reproductive Health and Rights

    With the financial assistance from the Ministry of Health and Family welfare, Govt. of India, TNVHA implements Reproductive Child Health Programme in 6 districts of Tamil Nadu for the past 3 years.

    3. Prevention and Control of HIV / AIDS

    TNVHA conducts Continuing Medical Education Programme on recent development and management on STD Care to all Private Allopathic Medical Practitioners. TNVHA also trains the health workers on Prevention and Control of STD/HIV/AIDS. AIDS Prevention And Control project (APAC) is supporting in this venture.

    GOVERNMENT NURSES TRAINING PROGRAMME is part of equipping Health Care Personnel in prevention and control of STD/HIV/AIDS was training nurses on STD/HIV/AIDS Management. So far 2000 Government Nurses have been trained. This is done with the support of Tamil Nadu State AIDS Control Society. TNVHA in the past has enabled NGOs to build their capacity and continues to undertake activity to prevent and Control HIV/AIDS.

    4. Prevention of Disability and Rehabilitation of Persons with Disability

    7. Women Empowerment Programme.

    The World Health Organisation (WHO) through Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Govt. of India supported TNVHA to train 24 Master Trainers and 720 village based women animators in 5 districts of Tamil Nadu. The trained personnel with the help of 26 NGOs are creating conducive structures to promote empowerment process among women.

    The activities for the past three years were focused on promotion of awareness on RCH and creating a demand for services. The focus of intervention during the current year is on campaign and lobying on district specific issue.
